US Foods Application Developer, Lead in Rosemont, Illinois

Lead Application Developer is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of Tandem HP Non-Stop application systems that support critical core business functions.

Basic Purpose, Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads design and development processes for multiple applications, programs and platforms.

  • Is viewed as the subject matter expert in one or more applications or platforms.

  • Troubleshoot and lead resolution of Incidents for Warehouse and Supply Chain systems.

  • Participate in one week support rotation every seven weeks and assist others when needed.

  • Drives use of US Foods best practices across Core Solutions.

  • Works with complicated and business critical applications across various functional areas.

  • Develop or refine solutions requiring integration across multiple platforms or business areas.

  • Develops testing approach and test cases to test changes or core business functionality.

  • Defines and explains requirements and impact on system components and functional areas.

  • Apply technical knowledge and historical experience to enhance US Foods practices.

  • Develops Technical Design Documents and review submissions for viability and approval.

  • Create Requests for Change and documents necessary to ensure an application or environment meets functional specifications and performance requirements for install.

  • Work and collaborate closely with Technical Architects.

  • Codes applications, data bases, interface programs, and configures software packages.

  • Conducts peer reviews, creates Unit Test cases, and Documents code as required.

  • Manages off-shore development deliverables in terms of milestones and quality.

  • Documents system functionality and verifies work estimates.

  • Updates code to address defects and enhancements.



  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related field or equivalent experience required.

Related Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in general IT;

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Tandem application development.


  • Understanding of Legacy Systems best practices;

  • Proven ability to analyze and understand existing processes and code.

  • 5 Years or more of progressively responsible experience in systems development, application planning, analysis, design and life cycle development.

  • Career concentration with Financial, Order Entry, or Warehouse Supply Chain Systems.

  • Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with IT Management and team.

  • Ability to negotiate acceptable solutions to complex problems across multiple business and/or technical areas and vendors.

  • Ability to organize own work from specs and manage multiple projects effectively.

  • Strong analytical skills capable of understanding and documenting business processes and functional requirements.

  • Capable of understanding and documenting functional business requirements and communicating same to IT development team.

  • Ability to Work Remote in a productive manner and travel up to 10% if needed.

  • Previous experience troubleshooting application-related problems

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff

Tandem HP Proficiency in:

  • COBOL, SCOBOL, Pathway, TACL, SQL, TMF, Enscribe, FUP, SCUP, Peruse

  • Einspect, Enscribe, Netbatch, Guardian OS

Familiarity with:

  • Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & MS Project)

  • RMS (Revision Management System)

A plus:

  • IBM Mainframe Background or Interface Experience.
